MICR Fonts Usage
There are four major fonts used in cheque processing around the world: E13B, CMC7, OCR-A, and OCR-B.
E13B and CMC7 are MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) because they are printed with magnetic ink, enabling the Banks to read the data electronically by magnetic recognition. The requirements of both codes are defined under ISO 1004.
OCR-A and OCR-B are optically read, and mainly used in European countries.
The following table lists the usage around the world.
